Fighting addiction on your own can be challenging and seem impossible at times. It’s important to seek help as quickly as possible but it’s also vital to first understand the basics of recovery. In order to deal with drug or alcohol addiction effectively, you have to understand that there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. Each person has his or her own unique set of issues that have to be taken into consideration when deciding upon the best path to recovery.
Things to Consider
Before reviewing some of the various recovery center options, it’s important to remember that everyone is different. Some people are able to make quick progress through the rehabilitation process and may have a great support system waiting for them once they leave a rehab clinic. This person could potentially need less counseling than a patient who has no one to fall back on. Although the evidence favors long-term, inpatient rehabilitation, this may not always be an option for certain patients. There are also individual preferences to consider. Some patients prefer a luxury rehab facility that provides them with the comforts they are used to. Although there is evidence to suggest that luxury rehab programs work better for patients accustomed to that particular lifestyle, many patients suggest this is primarily based on preference rather than need.
Different Rehab Centers
Long-Term Rehabs These programs last 60+ days and are considered the best rehab facilities because they offer better results. The treatment is residential which means the patient lives in the recovery center. This allows the patient to focus on getting better without any outside distractions. Short-Term Treatment These are based on the 28 or 29 day rehab treatment programs. Even though 30 days or less may not be sufficient enough to instill long-lasting change, the residential nature of the program still gets the patient out of his or her current situation. Statistically, success rates with this treatment are lower. But, with the right program and assistance, it’s better than not attending rehab altogether. Outpatient Care This type of care may offer many of the same therapeutic addiction care options that you may find at inpatient recovery programs, but patients return home at the end of the day. Many patient find it difficult to remain sober on their own. Luxury Option Because luxury programs are more expensive, the staff to patient ratio is significantly lower than with the traditional rehab clinic. Additional funds allow these programs to build a comprehensive program around the patient. State Funded Programs These programs are the opposite of the luxury treatment option. Treatment is state-funded which means that patients contribute nothing or very little to the overall cost. These programs may not have the latest innovations available to their patients and there may be long waiting periods before a patient is able to begin treatment. Private Oftentimes patients have to rely on their insurance to pay for this type of treatment program or pay out of pocket themselves. Because they are more expensive, they provide additional benefits such as short waiting lists and better staff-to-patient ratios.
